“This was a great showing for us,” said Speech Coach Mary Rau. “I was very pleased to bring home three of the nine district champions. Our two seniors have worked very hard, and I’m glad that they get a chance to compete at state. They deserve it.
“The OID’s second place finish was awesome. They’d been having some problems, so we made some major changes just before districts. The gamble panned out, and they’re headed to state, also.
“Of course, we had some disappointments in the finals, but that’s just the nature of the competition. We’re looking at some great leadership from these individuals next year.
“Other members of the team stepped up and filled in where we had open slots in entries, and that really made a difference in team scoring. It was tough to lose the championship by one point, but we’re always happy to bring home team hardware.”
The seven members of the team advancing to state will participate next Tuesday, March 18, on the UNK campus in Kearney. The state schedule is available at http://www.nsaahome.org under the “Speech” tab.
