YOUNG SPEAKERS COMPETE AT DISTRICT LEVEL
On April 16, 2008, area students competed in a district speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America. Prior to the contest, the students had already won first or second place in their local school’s speech contest. They shared their presentations on this year’s topic, An American Landmark. The first place winner Clay Chohon, a 6th grade student from Ainsworth, won a $50.00 cash award and a trophy. His school will also receive an engraved trophy. Second place winner Caleb Lackaff, a 8th grade student from Bassett; and third place winner Kasina Heerten, a 8th grade student from Springview, also received trophies. They will go on to compete at the regional contest held April 30 in Oacoma, SD.
