Ainsworth Middle School Holds Community Service Day
On Thursday April 17th, the 5th through 8th grade classes at AMS held a Community Service Day. This day was planned in conjunction with Middle Level Education Month. Weather was beautiful and cooperative making spirits high for this fun service event.
Everyone in our community puts forth such a great effort supporting our Middle School Students. Knowing this fact, our students and staff took this opportunity to give back to the community. On this day students’ efforts took the form of sprucing up our towns and surrounding areas.
We took time to take a picture for the Star Journal and also view a DVD on safety while volunteering during trash and cleanup projects. We also watched a short video on issues dealing with Bullying among teens. As we know there are so many issues and complexities that Middle School age students go through during their pre-teen and early adolescent years. This is the age at which time they develop into the individuals they will become. All of our efforts, from parents, teachers, family, community members, help mold these young people into the future members and leaders of our communities. This Community Service Day hopefully served as an example to our students how we all share in community and how citizenship plays a big part in that.
After a hearty breakfast served to the students, they embarked on the following projects for the day. The Middle School Adopt-A-Highway south of town, helping clean the new Fire Hall, East City Park, the Cowboy Trail from east of the park to Meadowview Estates, the new baseball fields area, the lots directly west of the hospital and clinic, Long Pine Highway entrances to town, the Long Pine Nature Trail in Long Pine State Recreation Area, Highway 7 north of town, downtown sidewalk sweeping and general cleanup, cottonwood Villa grounds, our Natural Grasses area at school and general cleanup around our school grounds. Those projects kept us busy, that’s for sure! The results were outstanding too! A rough estimate of the amount of garbage and trash picked up was very substantial. Two pickup loads of leaves, grass, and general refuse were taken to the landfill from ACS landscaping and grounds. Another five loads of full garbage bags were picked up. The total number of bags picked up was roughly 100. It was certainly a good amount of trash that is no longer taking away from the beauty of our surroundings. The downtown cleanup of windows, sidewalks, and fire hall activities is not really measurable, but much work and effort in those areas did make a noticeable difference.
Thank you for watching out for our students as
they were out and about on the streets and highways that day.
Again, thank you, Community of Ainsworth for all that you do for
our school.
