Mr. Clapper's 4th Grade Class Learns About Nicaragua
.....Parent visits class after mission trip to Nicaragua
May 07, 2008
Scotty Clark visited the fourth grade class room and spoke about a mission trip he took to Nicaragua. He said the purpose of his trip was to erect a wall for an orphanage. The wall was needed to keep the children and their supplies safe. The wall helped keep in the ducks and chickens at the orphanage as well.
Scotty spoke about the children around and in the orphanage. There was a school close by with many students. He said the students had one school uniform to wear and they took very good care of it. They loved to play baseball and soccer. Students carried recorders with them and loved to play for him while he was there.
According to Mr. Clark, Nicaragua was very tropical with lots of trees. They saw lots of geckos and centipedes. He said the heat and humidity were quite bad. Managua was the town they landed in. Scotty said people lived in tents or makeshift homes. Poverty, sickness, and crime were quite bad. Do to the crime, the mission group had to carry identification in case they were stopped by the Nicaraguan Army to inspect them.
Students enjoyed Mr. Clark’s interesting talk and had many questions.
