8th Grade Math Studies Percent Applications

by Mrs. Allen

February 17, 2010

The 8th grade math class took a foray into the real world to learn more about percent applications.  We have been studying wholesale price, retail price, discount price, sales tax and tips.  To make these concepts more concrete the students created The Sandhills Mall in the classroom with each student owning their own store.  Students were asked to choose a product to sell which reflected their own interests.  Each student then created a poster depicting their store name, the product they wanted to sell, their name as proprietor, and the price at which they wanted to sell their product.  A real world scenario was then created for each store using the percent applications we have been studying and the students had to solve the problem generated at each location.   A slideshow is included showing each student and their store.   Wendy's Store
