eBooks Available at the Library

The Ainsworth Public Library has made it possible for you to access a wide range of research, reference and reading materials online with the purchase of ebooks through netLibrary.  eBooks are an electronic version of print books.  Like print books, the text found in eBooks is often enriched with photos, illustrations, graphs and tables.  In eBooks, users can navigate through the text in ways not possible in print.

This past summer the Nebraska Library Commission awarded the Ainsworth Library a grant to help provide netLibrary to our readers.  netLibrary is a commercial provider of online books in full-text that offers libraries access to a wide range of books.  The Ainsworth Community Schools helped the public library pay the remaining amount for netLibrary.  The school partnered with the Public Library because the school administration is very aware of the importance of ebooks and having them available for students and teachers to access to research and reference papers.

eBooks are easy to use.  They are accessible from any location—the library, your home, or office.  Searching them is fast and efficient.  You can search every word in every eBook your library has, as well as search within a particular eBook.  Plus, each eBook is embedded with The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition.

In order to checkout netLibrary books or to access netLibrary from a place other than the library, you must set up a personal netLibrary account.  This is a one-time process and is similar to signing up for a library card to establish borrowing privileges with a specific library.  The librarians will help you access netLibrary by getting you to the Ainsworth Library Sign Up page on the web.  Next we will click on the “Create a Free Account” link on the screen and fill out the account information. You will submit the information and see if the username and password has not been claimed by someone else.  If the username is unavailable you will be asked to select a different name.  When your account is set up successfully it will return you to the basic search screen. From then on you will use this username and password when you log on to netLibrary.  Each time you wish to view or check out an eBook you must first log in to netLibrary.  The web address will be given to you after signing up.  You will have access to all eBooks available in your library’s collection 24 hours a day where ever you have internet access.

There are several different searches available for you to use with eBooks.  (The Basic Search, the Advance Search, or Phrase Search)  You may also use the “Add to Favorites” link.  This feature allows you to add titles to a list so you can easily access them at a later time without executing another search.  You can print single pages of an eBook, much like you can copy a single page of a print book on a photocopy machine.  Sections of pages, within limitations, can also be copied and pasted into reports and presentations.

The Ainsworth Public Library and the Ainsworth Community Schools are very pleased to be able to offer eBooks to our community.  Please visit the public library and set up your eBook account so that you will be able to access thousands of books with your fingertips.
