Coach’s comments: “This was a very important game in the fact that a win would guarantee a home game for the first round of the conference tournament. We came out of the gates firing and jumped out on them by double digits half way through the first quarter. Cozad showed a lot of fight and was able to make some runs and get right back into the game. At the half, our lead was just eight points.
“During halftime, we talked about our lack of execution on both ends of the court. In the second half, they ran some different sets on defense, and we made way too many poor passes that cost us a lot of possessions. This was one of the games that seemed like we just couldn’t shake them and allowed them to hang within striking distance.
“Ben Hunt did a nice job on the boards, and Jared Lentz had his best game of the year. Without those two making some big plays in the second half, we could have let this game get away from us.
“This win secures us a first round home game in the conference tournament, and with all the road games we’ve had this year, we are very happy about that. Our next week of play is going to be very hectic, and we have some tough games coming up. We play a very good Chambers team on Tuesday at home, so it will be nice to once again play in our own gym.”
