American Revolutionary War Soldier

by Mrs. Davis

February 15, 2010

Betty McBride came into our 7th grade class this week to discuss the Battle of Kings Mountain.  This was a Revolutionary War battle fought on the border of North and South Carolina in October 1780. This battle was fought at the time that the British shifted the fighting from the northeast to the south in the hopes of getting support from loyalists in the area. Mrs. McBride’s ancestor was fighting for the Patriots and is credited for firing the decisive shot which allowed the Patriots to win the battle. This ancestor had come to America from Scotland and settled in the back country.  We feel very fortunate that Mrs. McBride was able to speak to our class at the exact time we were studying this portion of the Revolutionary War.  She has been in Arizona for a portion of the winter and came home for a few days.  Thanks to Betty McBride for making special efforts to speak to the class.
