Public Library to Hold a Read-A-Thon Fundraiser
By Gail Irwin
March 03, 2010
The Ainsworth Public Library will be holding a Read-a-Thon to raise funds for the new library addition. This fundraising event will be open to all ages. We hope to involve the children as young as toddlers and preschoolers, the students from school, as well as parents, grandparents and other adults.
If you are interested in participating, please stop by the library and pick up your Reader’s Kit. This kit will have all the details and dates that you need to know plus the Sponsor Form, and your Tracking Sheet for number of pages read.
From March 15 to March 20th, the readers will try to find sponsors who will pledge a certain amount of money for every page that you read. Sponsors might be friends, relatives, neighbors, or even yourself. Some sponsors may want to donate a set amount while others will pledge a certain amount per page read. It really doesn’t matter how they pledge. Just remember, there is no such thing as a too small pledge! Even the smallest pledge will help in raising the funds for the library expansion project.
All reading for the Read-a-Thon will take place from March 22 to April 3, 2010. It does not matter whether you are reading by yourself, reading to someone else, or having someone read to you. All reading time during these two weeks will count. Please note that this will include reading newspapers or magazine. Readers will keep tract of the number of pages read on their Tracking Sheet. When the reading time ends, readers will total their pages and collect their pledges. You will have from April 5-April 10th to collect the funds from your sponsors. Bring the money you raised, the Sponsor Form, and the Tracking Sheet back to the Library by 5 p.m. on April 10th. Celebration Parties will be held during National Library Week (April 12-16th) for the readers in the Read-a-Thon. The date and time will be announced when returning the pledges. Prizes will be awarded to the top readers at this time.
Come join the fun of reading! Stop at the Ainsworth Public Library and get your Reader’s Kit today.
