Seventh Grade Art Class Travels to Kearney
The 2nd Quarter 7th grade Art students went to Kearney on Thursday, November 2nd to tour the MONA (Museum of Nebraska Art). They viewed several special exhibits: "Nebraska: The Natural World" which is an exhibit of art work that shows the wildlife that has inhabited Nebraska; "Nebraska Now" an installation by Omaha artist Sarah Rowe, that addresses issues of self-identity and exploitation of natural resources; and an exhibit titled "Nebraska: Its land, Its People", this exhibit explored through photographs, paintings, sculptures, etc. the richness and diversity of the state's land and its people.
Students also used Visual Thinking Strategies to study several works of art to help them learn to interpret what an artist might be trying to say or capture in an artwork. MONA also had an exhibit of artwork created by Native American artists from the Rosebud S.D. area. The students were very attentive and enjoyed the visit very much.
