High School Art Trip

Story image 1_0

On Thursday, November 7, 2019 thirty-one students from Ainsworth High School traveled to Omaha, NE to tour the Joslyn Art Museum.

They viewed the special exhibition "Word & Image" which is the 1st handwritten illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine Monastery since the 15th century.  The Saint Johns' Bible incorporates contemporary imaging and events to connect traditional medieval craftsmanship with the 21st century.  The students were able to view the finished pages as well as learn about the team of theologians, scientists, craftsmen, and others who created the illustrations, the calligraphy, and even the calfskin vellum these were written and painted on.  They were also able to view traditional quill pens, bars of Chinese ink and they were able to handle a piece of vellum.
