Harvest Virtual Field Trip
…students join a farmer in Johnson, NE for corn harvest
On October 3, 2018, McAndrew Elementary 4th graders participated in a virtual field trip with a farmer in Johnson, Nebraska. Thanks to the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation’s program, “Ag in the Classroom”, for bringing our classroom directly into the front seat of a combine in the southeast corner of the state.
During the live video-chat students joined eight other classrooms across the state in learning about corn harvest in a different part of the state. The farmer, Clint, described the equipment and technology used during harvest, explained the process of harvest, and answered questions. Two students from Ainsworth were able to ask Clint questions in real-time. In addition, they listened to questions from other students who were participating in the virtual field trip.
Following the experience, students compared and contrasted farming in that region of the state to agriculture in the Sandhills region.
