Ainsworth Families,

We are taking this opportunity to make you aware of a phone scam that targets school families and has been reported in several Nebraska school districts.

With these scams, a parent or guardian receives a call from an unknown number from someone claiming to be a school employee.  The caller may falsely state that the parent’s child is in trouble or involved in an emergency, and then possibly instruct the parent to meet somewhere to pick up their child.

These calls are fraudulent and should not be trusted.

Please remember:

  • If you receive a call claiming your child is in trouble, hang up and contact Ainsworth Community Schools directly using the school phone number.

  • School staff will not ask parents to meet at a secret, undisclosed, or off-campus location to pick up a student.

  • School personnel will not ask parents to keep an emergency or situation confidential or tell them not to contact others.

Please be cautious of calls from unknown numbers that create a sense of urgency or pressure you to act immediately.

If you do receive a suspicious call, please notify the school and consider contacting law enforcement. Reporting these calls can help identify patterns and help protect other families.

When in doubt, hang up and call the school directly.  Thank you for helping keep our students, families, and school community safe.
